Game views from room balcony.Picturesque, high peaks, open moorlands, steep ravines, waterfalls, and forest are characteristic of this Highland Park located 100km North of Nairobi and covering 766 sq.km. Rare forest specialists such as Giant Forest Hog, Harvey’s Red Duiker, Golden Cat, Serval Cat, African wild cat, African Civet Cat, Sykes monkey, Mountain Antelope and the blue duiker occur here. Elephants, Black Rhinos, Leopards, spotted hyenas, warthogs, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, buffalos, and bushbucks among others occur in the park too. Rare all black leopards are regular in the reserve too. In the bamboo forest, rare sightings of mountain bongo and critically endangered large forest antelope can luckily be spotted. Bird viewing is rewarding, with over 250 species of birds in the park, including the Jackson's Francolin, Sparrow hawks, Goshawks, Sunbirds, Hornbill, Hartlaub’s Turaco, Cape Eagle, Nightjars, Owls and Lapwings. Known for tree hotels, Treetops and The Ark, overlooks forest-fringed water holes that attract wildlife at night including the rare black rhino. Game drives in Aberdare National Park follow a rough 4x4-only roads which can get messy due to high altitudes in the region and more so during the wet seasons which is year round except on long dry season; July-October. The park was created to protect the moorland and slopes of the Aberdares Mountains.

The park can be accessed by road via Mombasa road from Nairobi and chartered flight to Kampi Ya Samaki Airstrip.
