Hike to the ice. Africa second tallest mountain and the country “KENYA” was named after it. This extinct volcano mountain that erupted several million years ago stands at 5,199m. The park is characterized by glaciers, montane forest, alpine moorland, lakes and natural springs. Similar to Aberdares National Park, rare forest sightings, birdlife and wildlife are more or less similar. The park was created to protect the moorland and slopes of Mount Kenya. A stay at Mountain Lodge over-looking the forest-fringed water holes that attract wildlife at night and surrounded by forest dwelling birds is perfect spot for nature lovers.

Climbing Mt. Kenya to Lenana peak is a life time experience, done using special equipment. Hike takes at least three days using three main routes; Naru Moru Route (Most used route, therefore crowded); Chogoria Route (Overlooks the shining blue Lake Michaelson and beautiful Gorges Valley) and Sirimon Route (features hundreds of wildlife and beautiful yellowwood forest). For ice climbers; June to October is the perfect time. Clients are recommended to avoid rainy periods; March-June and October-December.

Accessibility:
The park can be accessed by road via Nairobi – Nanyuki and chartered flight to Airstrips in the region.
