Tarangire
National Park
Back

Quiet and little known, Tarangire is located in Northern Tanzania making it a perfect spot for a stop to the Northern Circuit. The park is characterized by large baobab trees, open plains, acacia woodland, swamps, and termite skyscrapers; the park nears Lake Manyara and covers 2850 sq.km.The park is famous for its migration of large herds of up to 300 elephant between the dry seasons July to October to river bed of Tarangire River. Pythons here enjoy tree climbing as they patiently wait to hunt and relax too. The park is home to endangered fringe-eared oryx, greater kudu, and tiny Ashy Starling. Rare white-tailed African wild dogs occur in the Southeast plains. For birdwatchers, Tarangire NP is the place to be with amazingly over 550 species from starlings, hornbills, Kori Bustard, bee-eaters, vultures, eagles, go away birds, helmeted guinea fowl, and lovebirds among others. Hundreds of Zebras, warthogs, giraffes, gazelles, antelopes and buffalos make the cheetahs, lions, leopards, hyenas and jackals thrive in the eco-system.
